Death Mountain and split with Brian Grainger both available now!

Death Mountain CD (2008 INSTALL)
Photobucket

Millipede, fresh from his split cassette with Brian Grainger at Milieu Music, appears here for his very first full-length album, "Death Mountain". A huge, towering monolith of a record, this sounds exactly like you'd expect with a name like that. Gigantic masses of distorted guitars lock together to form chunks of shoegazing space-dust and singsong feedback. This is music for a weary traveler on a long and lonesome quest, and quite possibly the heaviest album we've released in this series! For fans of tape hiss, distortion pedals and dreamy riffing coated in fuzz-bliss, check this one out!

Brian Grainger & Millipede Play Ancient Hylian Folk Songs C-40 (2008 Milieu Music)
Photobucket

The first tape here at Milieu Music, and a very unique one at that (although I understand that not everyone buys tapes anymore, so every
order for this release comes with high-quality MP3 files!). Splitting sides with recent Install-inductee Millipede, this
is a 40-minute quest through the Hyrulean kingdom, chock-full of dangerous mythical beasts, alluring forests with giant talking trees,
beautiful maidens and boss fights, where our hero in green will have traveled through time to save the world so that we may spin
these tales of battle and woe. What remains of that kingdom? None remain who know...

Download Hyrule for Free

The Hyrule C-30 is now completely sold out. Since it was limited to only 30 copies I have decided to offer it for free to those who missed out. Below you will find a link to download a high quality 320 kbps mp3 version of the album. I hope you enjoy it and please let me know if the link is dead and I will gladly repost it. I think the yousendit link only has 100 downloads but I'm not going to limit it to that. The split with Brian Grainger and the Death Mountain CD-R are coming up next so don't miss out on those! Also feel free to post the album on your blog and share it with your friends if you wish to do so. Sharing is cool. Click on the word "Hyrule" below.

Major Announcements!

Major Announcements

The Install label, based out of New York, and home to artists such as Brian Grainger, David Tagg, Ourson, and The Caretaker will be releasing Death Mountain as a limited edition CD-R as part of their Installation series. It won't be out until next year sometime but I should have more info on that as it becomes available to me. If you want to see what it might look like you can head on over to www.installsound.net and check out other entries in the series. I couldn't be happier than to be working with some very nice people who believe in what I'm doing.

As if that weren't enough ridiculously awesome news for one day, Brian Grainger and I will be doing a split cassette based on ideas taken from each of us regarding The Legend of Zelda. Not for sure on what the title will be exactly just yet but the text may be all in Hylian!

More info to come closer to actual release time.

Update.

So I've posted about this several times here before and I was pretty much wrong every time until now. The new record is finished. It's going to be called Death Mountain and not Singing Mountain. The following is the tracklist and yet again more lies as "Kakariko Village" will be the final track. I'm still trying to find a label to put it out since Epicene founder Matt Reis has decided to call it quits on doing the label. I'm extremely happy to have had the chance to work with him, he's great guy running an awesome label and I'm sad to see it come to an end. The following will be the tracklist for Death Mountain:

1. Stalfos
2. Gyorg
3. Daphnes Nohansen
4. Red Candle
5. Grumble Grumble
6. Syrup the Witch
7. Kakariko Village

In the meantime I'll be doing a short run of 20 CD-Rs for the record just like Hyrule with another version to follow as soon as I can find a label. You will be able to get the CD-Rs directly from me when they're finished.

Review of Hyrule in WIRE!

From WIRE issue 296 October 2008

Millipede - Hyrule

"
Knoxville Tennessee guitar-noise tribute to Zelda (the game) and MBV (the group). Well, it's not that simple, actually, but you get the idea - overload layering for a variety of nerdly senses." - Byron Coley

Kakariko Village.

"Kakariko Village" was going to be on Singing Mountain but was cut because I could not decide where to put it. It sounds like the last song on a record to me but I already had a good one. If you want to download a 320 kbps mp3 of it then visit the Myspace page and it can be yours completely free!

Singing Mountain

Singing Mountain is finished. More info to come on the format and time frame for release. Definitely more burly than Hyrule but also more quiet too. I'm relocating to Chattanooga in a month as well, goodbye Knoxville!

Hello!

So this blog is going to be the main website for info on Millipede aside from the myspace page. From time to time I may post new material here as well as performance dates and other various goings on. Since most of the material I'm releasing under this moniker will be in a limited edition form of CD-R, tape, or some such thing, I will probably post entire Millipede releases in high quality mp3 format for those of you that miss out on the short-run pressings.

A little information about Millipede:
Millipede is the psychedelic/noise project of Joseph Davenport (that's me). From time to time it may include other musicians, especially in the live aspect of the project. It was started in 2006 with a limited edition CD-R entitled Aquamentus, named after a monster in the original Legend of Zelda videogame series. The Legend of Zelda has been a huge inspiration to me during all of my recordings even though it doesn't necessarily come through in any way other than album and song titles. In 2007 the 5 song Hyrule CD-R was self-released in a limited edition of 20 copies in a black/red swirl slipcase with a tape version still in the works on the Ohio label Epicene_ESR.
